Laura L. Kuhs, FNP-BC, IBCLC

Laura is a comprehensively prepared health care provider, holding Board Certifications as both a Nurse Practitioner and a Lactation Consultant with over 15 years of medical caregiving experience. Laura holds a Master’s degree in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine. She is a Doctoral Candidate at Frontier Nursing University where she studies quality improvement in healthcare with a clinical focus on vaccination.

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Laura provides primary care for her patients throughout the lifespan. She focuses on delivering cost-effective, evidence-based, and patient-centered care that meets patients as the individuals they are. Laura encourages patients to be active participants in their care, embracing a health-promoting lifestyle for themselves and their families.

In addition to Lactation and Family Practice, Laura holds certifications and degrees in massage therapy and midwifery. Her practice philosophy reflects this unique intersection of experience, valuing low-intervention, holistic care while embracing modern and progressive medical practices to support optimal health outcomes in the short and long term.

Laura encourages vaccination for all of her patients, including annual protection against COVID-19. Laura does accept pediatric patients whose families have non-routine plans for immunization, with the understanding that all families want to ensure their children are receiving safe an appropriate medical care. She understands that families face overwhelming amounts of confusing and conflicting information and her goal is to help patients and their families understand their options and the evidence behind their care recommendations. However, families who have already decided not to vaccinate their children may find that they are better philosophically aligned with a different provider.

Laura is currently accepting new primary care patients of all ages with Aetna, Anthem/BCBS, Maine Community Health Options, and MaineCare.

New lactation patients are always welcome, no matter where they receive primary care. Laura accepts Aetna, Anthem/BCBS, Maine Community Health Options, United, Cigna and MaineCare for lactation.

Self-pay services are also available.
